The event will take place in Belém, between August 30th and September 1st. The Amazon and New Economies International Conference on will discuss Sustainable Development in the region

The former Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) Ban Ki-moon will attend The Amazon and New Economies International Conference. A South Korean politician, he is one of the greatest global leaders in advocating Sustainable Development and Environmental Protection.

During his 10 years at the head of the UN General Secretariat (2007 to 2017), Ban Ki-moon dedicated himself to establishing international agreements that would guide the future of the planet. His legacy includes the creation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the signing of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change and the Minamata Convention on Mercury.

The Amazon and New Economies International Conference will be held in Belém, between August 30th and September 1st, by the Brazilian Mining Institute (IBRAM), in partnership with the government of Pará. The event will aim to discuss the Sustainable Development of the Amazon region and the opportunities arising from the transition to a low-carbon economy.

In addition to Ban Ki-moon, the meeting will bring together political and business leaders, environmental specialists and civil society representatives to discuss practices for the economic and social development of the Amazon.
